KAMLOOPS 2011 WESTERN CANADA SUMMER GAMES SOCIETY EARNS PRAISE

Kamloops, BC– Chefs de Mission and Western Canada Games Council converged in Kamloops recently to review the planning progress for the Kamloops 2011 Western Canada Summer Games.

Chris Graham, Chair for the Western Canada Games Council stated in a note of thanks to the Games Society; “Council and the Chefs de Mission were most impressed with the level of detailed information provided this far in advance of the Games. We all left with a sense that the Games are being well managed and that Kamloops will be ready to stage an impressive Games in 2011. “

The three day M1 Conference included a tour of the Games venues, organized by Sport Coordinator, Vincent Lafontaine. This included the world class facilities at the Tournament Capital Centre and Thompson Rivers University. The progress reporting was rounded off with presentations by individual Directors and staff, providing opportunities for feedback and addressing any potential challenges.

Mayor Peter Milobar welcomed the Mission members on May 26th at a banquet hosted in their honor. He spoke of the City’s commitment to supporting the success of the Games at all levels and his pride in the tremendous volunteer force within the City.

“The M‐1 meetings were an excellent opportunity to gauge just where we are in our preparation,” states Henry Pejril, President of the Kamloops 2011 WCSG Society. “Our presentations highlighted the experience and competency of our directors, the quality of our staff, the quality of our facilities and the outstanding support from the City, the Province and TRU. “

The Kamloops 2011 Western Canada Summer Games are considered a segue into the Canada Games and ultimately the Paralympics and Olympics. They provide aspiring athletes with the opportunity to experience all the elements of multi‐sport competition and to see firsthand the level of dedication required to make it to the podium.
